theological narrative

All Souls is a church community situated within the mainstream of Christian history and theology. The Apostles' Creed is a confessional prayer (and it's important that we understand it as prayer, not merely recitation of facts) tracing its roots to the fourth century. The Creed joins us with the global church across the centuries in narrating the story of our faith.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
    the Maker of heaven and earth,
    and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
    born of the virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
    and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
    from there he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;
    the holy catholic church;
    the communion of saints;
    the forgiveness of sins;
    the resurrection of the body;
    and the life everlasting.

Amen.
